When I think of fantasy, the first story that would come to my mind is Ramayana. The story is simple, adventurous, has its own thrill. From the beginning to end, the fantasy is at its best. This widely known story would be a shit, if one takes vulgarized stand on Putra thosha Yaagam, Aswametha Yaagam, Linga Puja etc. Exactly, That’s what happens to Aayirathil Oruvan, Magnificient fantasy plot, spoiled by Off color Scenes. Moreover, the movie does not give you the feel that is expected out of such a nice storyline.
It is quite surprising to see the director’s comment that he would quit the movies for good if the movie is proved a copy of a hollywood movie. Frankly, its not a copy of one hollywood movie, but several scenes are ripped off from various hollywood movies.
When the second half of the movie begins, there’s whole lot of confusion. I could not control laughter, when it was revealed that pandyas want to take revenge on chola after 800 years, in spite of the fact that, Pandyas themselves has lost their country 700 years back. From Stone Henge to Colosseum, Chola Kingdom has all wonders of the world, Wow, director’s imagination is at its best, thats real fantasy(?). It is evident that director has lost focus, wants to break the stereotypes but ends up with a mega serial.
Aayirathil Oruvan, Nice Attempt, Better Luck Next Time. Selva has to improve his directorial skills, Stay in Focus.
Though the Aayirathil Oruvan story has been taken as a fantasy, this story can also be made as a real life story. For instance, Spanish has raided the complete inca empire in 16th century, without leaving a single building that depicts their culture. But only on the early 20th century, the Macha Pichu, A uninhabited human settlement in green mountain, came to the light of the world, and i.e, the last remnants of Inca Empire.
