Frihost

Hosting a website for Free, is always a joke. Something has to be paid to the host, either money or time or ads. Frihost falls into the second category i.e. time. It provides web-hosting absolutely free of cost without ads, however, requires the member’s time,i.e,the user has to be active in frihost forum, to host his site.

Frihost, employs a point scheme, based on which when the user posts in their forum, a points will be roughly calculated based on the content and it would be added to the user’s score. Everyday, This user’s score reduces by one point. The user has to ensure that their point doesnot go less than -10, and be actively participating in the frihost forum.

For a free host provider, Frihost is simply the best hosting service. It would rank One in my list of free host providers. It is exceptional in  QoS, Features (Cron), Server availability, Support Forum, and in various other respects.

Its almost a year back, I have been a active member of frihost forum, to host my site(smartpandian.com) , but later I realised that most of my time was being spent in keeping my account active in frihost, than keeping my site(smartpandian.com) active.  Though, Frihost is my second most active forum while  my top visited forum being Orkut, I got bored off with frihost and I moved my site to another free hosting www.awardspace.com and now, finally move to paid hosting from Ixwebhosting.com.

If you had a plan to try out free web hosting, I would suggest, frihost.com and awardspace.com.

    Taken from: http://www.ixwebhosting.com/index.php/v2/pages.tos

“If a particular user is in extreme excess of what the average users of the machine have in use (actually used) of their resource allotments, that customer may be asked to remove content, cut resource usage, or relocate to a dedicated service provider. This policy only applies to web sites that are considered to be abusive in service, disk space or resource consumption and where it is evident that the “fair-use” of resources among customers has been breached, particularly in regards to disk space, bandwidth or CPU processing power utilization.”

Aditya, There is nothing wrong in Fair Use Policy. here, tos intention, is to ensure, that user was using the host only for web hosting, not as a file or video sharing or ftp server.
Fair Use Policy applies to everywhere where there is unlimited (BSNL or Airtel unlimited Broadband, is limited to 80 GB per month plus speed restrictions).

@Pandian: unlimited diskspace / bandwidth is a scam…read the Terms and Conditions of your webhost carefully, their should be a clause saying that if you use more than 20% of their resources, they would have the right to take off your site

I have been hosting in nearlyfreespeech.net .. The best!!

Pandian says Thanks Anand, This would be best suit for small websites or start up blogs. But for websites of size 300 MB or more, The diskspace at the rate 0.01$ per MB-month implies 300 MB would costs 3$, while, in my hosting, for 3$, one would get unlimited diskspace/bandwidth and can host upto 8 Domain names.
