National Language
For the Last 22 years, I was under the conspiracy that, Hindhi is the National Language of India. Just 4 days back I came to know that India doesn’t have National Language.
I felt ashamed. How come I was not sure of this small fact?.
Thank God.. Its not only me, my friends too. They were also under the thought that Hindhi is the Raastra Bhasha of India.. I felt very happy.. Because now I was a better Indian than them..
Also, I can safely conclude, more than half the population of India were under this conspiracy. Come On, India.
I dont know who has first imprinted this thought in my Mind.
When I was doing first year in College(Tamil Nadu), we went to NCC Naval Camp to Lonavala(Maharashtra). Most of us, dont know Hindhi. At that time, we were offended by Naval Person ( I dont remember his name / cadet) . He asked “Are you all Indians?”. He added that “Hindhi is the National language of India. so every Indian should know it.”
I felt offended. but I never gave thought over it at that time.
But Now, Its was really surprising for me to hear that India never had a National Language. This explains How India give importance to its each of its constituent languages. Long Live India…
If you also under this conspiracy.. Cheers Mate.. just give your comments.
Recently, United Nation has asked India to nominate a language for its official usage. This shows that India was becoming super power. But India was not in a position to suggest one language.

Karthik..
Zero Bearing in Every day life.. what do you mean?
Suppose, for example, an illiterate from Tamilnadu gets convicted for a crime. He was produced in Tamilnadu Court. Imagine, In court, The judge and advocate were speaking in Hindi/English. He doesnt understand single word spoken in the court. Not only Him, Entire land finds it alienated and this would hinder all development activities.
Laws of Government should be in the language of People and it should not be in the Foreign Language, though it’s a neighbouring language.
Just Imagine, How a common man in Arunachal Pradesh or Kerala would feel, if a guy from Hindi says…”How can you be a Indian without knowing Hindi?”.
This is not a trivial matter. Once, UP CM sends a letter to Kerala CM in Hindi. The Kerala CM replied to the letter in Malayalam. That explains unity in Diversity..
..This is not a fight, this is a self respect.
About English, It happens only in India, ha ha ha….
Do you think English is a native language of America?..
America has lost its heritage because of its attitude towards secularism. Also, Indian Secularism is different from French Secularism.
Indian Christians were different from American Christians (remember DaVinci Code). In India, There is a fight for Ramar Bridge that was built before 17,00,000 years before. You cant expect that in America. India respects the sentiments of People(Secular). In America, People’s sentiments were made fun(that’s also Secularism).
Indian Curreny Fall & Globalisation, during 1990s, has lead to a belief among common person in India that English & other foreign languages were superior than Indian Languages.
You know what, Telugu has got more native speakers than French. But we find it great to learn French than Telugu. This shows how a common man give respect to individual Indian Languages of India than a foreign language.
Difference I see between Europe and India is that, Europe was divided by language. India stays united inspite of difference in language.
Understand the difference, accept the difference, there you can find unity..thats India. (or Indian..) (Or Man)
What do you say about these?
Hey.. where did you get the idea that making hindi the national lang would make it superior.. these are just symbols… nobody needs to force anybody to learn hindi.. (it should infact remain a matter of choice)the fact that consensus cannot be arrived even in this trivial matter which has zero bearing on the every day lives of individuals is pathetic…
and more so the fact that people are ready to accept english – a completely foreign language instead of the local lang is even more.. it happens only in india
america is not a secular country acc to their constitution… they are a christian nation… but more secular than perhaps even india… they just look at it as a symbol and not as one used to start a battle of superiority or a controversy..
besides dont put the ‘according to constitution’ crap.. it means nothing to the common man… it is used by the politicians to wile away their time
Karthik,
Sometimes, I too think wikipedia as evil.. But it’s usefulness can’t be denied. See now, its a place where we can find neutral data(more than 75%) instead of websites with Extremistic ideas.
Coming to one more thing, As per Indian Constituency, India does not have a national language. Kashmir & Arunachal pradesh were India’s territories.
I accept that Kashmir and Hindi has virtual implications in the country.
Karthik, Language is not just political, there is also a truth behind it.
Learning Hindi is not wrong. But Making Hindi superior is wrong.
Stay Neutral and read the following. Then tell me, do you still believe that Hindi as national Language?
C.N. Annadurai has made this statement in 1965..
“It is claimed that Hindi should be common language because it is spoken by the majority. Why should we then claim the tiger as our national animal instead of the rat which is so much more numerous? Or the peacock as our national bird when the crow is ubiquitous?”
From ..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Hindi_agitations
Plus, Making Hindi National Language creates an Economic Discrimination.
Four Hindi speaking states enjoy the luxury in Government offices by their fluency in the language.

A Statement made by a Dhulekar (Hindusthani)(1965) was that,
“People who do not know Hindustani have no right to stay in India.”
which obviously means, south India, is not part of India.
I personally believe, Tamil Nadu was still living calm and peace with India, because India respects all languages. Else, Either Tamil Nadu would be a seperate country or India would become unstable terror millitary state, like, Srilanka, where Tamil Eelam fights against Srilankan government for a separate country still continues.
it doesnt really matter to me whether hindi is the nat lang or not, it is just that people put too much weight into wikipedia that irritates me, people start treating it like some holy gospel, which could be true or may be otherwise, but you never know… dont uplift the status of it to something like that…
one more thing, do u think kashmir is a part of india, it has never been with us ever since ’48, but that doesn’t stop people from including it in the indian map. common sense tells that it is not ours as we draw it, but that doesnt stop us from including it…. hindi is just like that, people for all sort of reasons (primarily political) will never come to accept hindi as the national lang… they will make up all this crap abt official lang…. but that does not make it not our nat. lang.
Karthi ..
Come on… I am telling Sach.. Just Check it out anywhere…
Believe me, I was under this conspiracy for last 22 years. and You too…:)
Everything in Wikipedia is not fake. More than 80% of the article in wikipedia were made with reference to other books and materials (refer the lower section in wikipedia article). Also, Talk page of wikipedia is the place where wikipedians would be fighting for what they claim.
